Our Job Is Done!

The Coalition of Alzheimer's Families is very pleased to see the fruits produced by the seeds we sowed. Even the opposition of yesterday cannot deny the truth revealed to this point in time.

On November 1, 2016, Tom Shortell of the Morning Call wrote - "Gracedale could make $1.6 million in 2016."  The article goes on to say, "County Executive John Brown said Monday that Gracedale had accumulated $1.66 million through the first nine months of the year."

Image result for stand on its own picsGracedale, as COAF stated back then, was not a money pit, but a broom that could stand on its own - if - not set up to fail.

Today, it is not important to debate who was right back then, and who was wrong. No, it is of the utmost importance to recognize and salute the collective effort on the part of all who partook in the endeavor to make Gracedale become what we all knew Gracedale could be, a self-sustaining facility that cares for humanity in various ways.

File:Great Seal of the United States (obverse).svgCOAF never desired to govern the nursing home or our county government. Hence, the reason we stepped aside after “We, The People” forced the referendum question onto the ballot. Our action to move aside demonstrates that our only desire was to give the individuals who indeed pay the bills by way of their taxes, an opportunity to chime in on the matter back then.

In May of 2011, a report indicated that the voters indeed rang in, and struck a blow to the privatization proponents, favoring Gracedale to remain in county hands by an overwhelming 73% of the vote.

COAF takes this opportunity, not to gloat, but to say “Thank You!” to all who supported our effort.

  1. Thank you Guardians! When the Press and the O'Hare propaganda machine were propping up the Stoffa/Angle lies about Gracedale you and a few others stood up to them and told the truth. Stoffa and his paid consultants worked hard to fool the people but in the end they failed.
Thank you and have a great and watchful New Year. The fight will never end.

  2. I take my hat off to all the people who saw clearly what Angle, Stoffa, and some others tried to do to a facility that does work. I will not mention names because I do not want to forget anyone by mistake. You all know who you are, we are grateful and thankful for your devotion to Gracedale.

  3. Apparently, your job is not over. You have to again reaffirm your beliefs. Mr. Cusick an advocate of the sale of Gracedale is county council president. Ron Angle, one of the prime backers of the dump Gracedale movement is running for council again. If John Brown wins re-election he will have seven republicans, two of which have actively supported dumping Gracedale.

Brown said he would not favor selling the Home. However, neither did John Stoffa until he won re-election. Do you want to take that chance again?

    1. We removed seven from their seats in office, including Stoffa and Angle. If Angle is voted back into office it will be a public declaration just how short our memories are. We believe Angle won't make it. Mr. Cusick chose correctly not to run again during the heat of the battle, understanding he would not be re-elected. If Mr. Cusick made the mistake of meddling with Gracedale today, it will likely end his political career. Mr. Brown did what we asked him to, he allowed Gracedale to swim or sink on its own. To his credit, Gracedale swam, and continues to swim today. We don't think that the County Council or the Administration desires to awaken the resting giant!
