While I am not a member of your COAF group, I would like to award you with the "TROPHY" which The Express Times never did. While I may not agree with every item on your agenda, I am fascinated on how a small group of NC citizens could accomplish such a monumental task. I now know that The Express Times is biased because they never noted such a feat whether they agreed with the concept or not. You have written some more NC history into the County's Book. Congratulations.
Excellent point anon 5:50, and I concur. The Express Times is headed by some egomaniacs like Till and Owens. These are guys who believe they have a God given ability to tell you the citizen what is best for you. They are also fanatical John Stoffa supporters. During the entire Gracedale debate they never once questioned his constantly changing strategies or cost projections. They never questioned the reality of a 5 to 30% spread in a "needed" tax increase. Frankly, they merely printed whatever press release the Stoffa administration handed them.
It is sad that they did not give the COAF credit for an extraordinary effort and result. What your group did was a feat never achieved before. I question if it can soon be repeated, if ever. Whether one agrees with the group or not, they deserve a trophy and would get it from an "impartial" and "unbiased" source. Of course we are not dealing with that with the Express Times. Please understand that most people who followed this story agree that your group accomplished an amazing achievement and for the citizen participation alone you deserved many trophy's. Of course in acknowledging you, the paper would have to admit that you ordinary citizens accomplished more in six months than John Stoffa has accomplished in five years. You also displayed more competent management results.
They will never do that but the people congratulate your hard work and citizen engagement.
Steve Barron is being mercilessly attacked by O'Hare. Is this because Steve is a pro-Gracedale public official ? Isn't Bernie the guy who'd have to be cleared by a mental health professional to be a lawyer again ?
When the Express Times talked about all the hot air coming out of Barron, they revealed their entire hand. Just like Gracedale, forget the resident and do not explore the matter in greater detail.I wonder if the Express Times ever met with that COAF group for an interview. If they did, I never read it in the paper. Perhaps, I missed it. Now that someone is concerned about the health of the every day worker in the county buildings, Mr. Stoffa MUST be correct.Would it not be a prudent thing to explore the situation in a calm, non-political way in order to learn if there might be the slightest chance that a county worker could , over time, might suffer some dire consequences instead of once again passing it off as a lot of hot air? And if Mr. Stoffa has all of the scientific evidence, let him reveal every thing to all of us.
I,too, find it hard to believe that the Express Times has not done a complete job insofar as investigative reporting is concerned. When the editors do not even recognize the achievements of their own community members-whether they agree or not- the paper is not to be believed. Many members of the community with whom I have spoken find it hard to believe that - except for a word here or there- they obviously do not feel the pulse of the community. Even the Morn Call made an effort to attemp to show both sides of the issue with Gracedale. So I guess that it should not come as any surprise where the Express Times will always come down on.Anyone can figure out the rest. Mr. Barron's warning may prove that the paper is the Turkey if some accident should take place.
I don't want the COAF to be seen as tied to Mr. Barron. he is a opportunistic politician hoping to cash in on the Gracedale situation for future votes. I think it is important that your group maintain its independence., Mr. Barron is playing this for votes more than resident or worker care. There may be disagreement by some about the outcome of the vote but I hate to see good people taken advantage of by some slick politicians hoping to ride your coatails for votes.

What the COAF's and their friends in labor did was nothing short of extraordinary ! What they did, no one thought they could do. Congratulations !

The Express Times has lost all credibility. Did they even bother to interview Mr. Barron before awarding him with a turkey?

Steve is a good man, to the core. He played an important part in the Gracedale initiative and stuck his neck out for the good of the people.
ReplyDeleteIsn't O'Hare an ET reporter? Or Staff Reporter? Or Contributing reporter? What ever they label him?
