What Happened?

We were there to proudly witness the re-organization of our County Council, only to feel somewhat embarrassed.

Sadly there was no organization to the re-organizational meeting, which took all of 10 minutes to complete.

First - present were: John Cusick, Tom Dietrick, Lamont McClure, and Scott Parson...on the phone (supposedly paying $2.50 per minute) was Peg Ferraro.

There certainly was a question of legality when it came down to the vote, and there really was no clear answer as to the legality of the action about to take place. While County solicitor Phil Lauer stated that all was in order, it didn't seem clear to us that all was in order. Mr. McClure also felt differently and voiced his objection.

In our opinion, these are  the times when instead of rushing things through, County Council should hesitate a moment to consider matters appropriately, which at the very least would present the appearance that they have their act together. And that they are about serving the people instead of serving themselves.

It was definitely an ugly meeting which gave rise to some of the comedy acts of yester-year, you know...Laurel and Hardy, Abbot and Costello, the Tree Stooges.

Now please note, we're not making fun of the meeting or any of our Council members - we want to see our local government succeed...but they do themselves (as well as their electors) a disservice when they don't take a minute to think rationally. And we have to say that because it is true. There was absolutely no need to act if there was any question about the legality of the situation. But by acting anyway they opened the door to the mockery that comes with the territory.

We hope this is not an indicator of how the rest of the year will go.

  3. If we recall when Ron Angle was voted out as president, angle voted for himself forcing cusick to then vote for himself to break the tie. To prevent the appearance of foul play they should have waited. And for Cusick to accept ferraro on the phone without giving kraft the same opportunity, especially since kraft was ill and ferraro was on vacation, truly shows his manipulation.

  4. OH MY---so this is how the year starts!!! Great going Council. This really gives us alot of confidence in your ability to make decisions on our behalf. Barbara==try writing things down and then refer back to it from time to time. Better yet =Frank maybe she needs reminder calls like doctors give but in her case do it the day of the meeting so she won't forget. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

  7. O'Hare is back to pushing his pal Stoffa's agenda for him. He has a post about the planned, "John Stoffa Humnan Services Building". Of course he has the planted Stoffa talking points. Mainly very less than specific generalities that read more like Stioffa's opinions.

Fact is, this is a bad idea. A bad idea that willnot only hurt human services for years to come but eventually come back to haunt even Gracedale.

Imagine that. This Stoffa guy is really a genius, I mean it. He screws up big time on Gracedale. Many people work to save Gracedale. He lies and cheats the unions and other employees. It looks like he has been stoped for good. Now he has the new council, you helped elect, and the union praising an idea that will evetually hurt not just Gracedale but all of Human Services. On top of that they will name the building after him. All of this in his last year in office. Guess who gets the last laugh?

Anyone that can pull that out of their hat is a genius in my book. I feel sorry for the county. I also feel bad for the COAF who put so much faith in people who are now letting you down.
