Move Slowly--That's All We're Saying

When it comes to the BIG money spending decision relating to the proposed Human Services Building, we don't believe that anyone is saying to County Council "don't do it", but instead to proceed with caution. Investigate properly all the options and possible scenarios that could hurt the taxpayers again, and don't let John Stoffa or Ken Mohr pressure you into something that the taxpayers will later discovered, was not necessarily the correct thing to do.

Considered the Swaption; a pay-off of over twenty seven million dollars is evidence that it was the wrong thing to do. These are all risk-taking gambles that if any calculations are incorerect, and/or all are not on the same page-at the right time, than much can be lost, as was the case with the swaption.

Hindsight tells us that we should have paid off the Swaption when it was well under ten million, say four to five million. That certainly would have been the correct avenue to take, however, at that time you couldn't get the necessary five votes to do so. And more importantly, John Stoffa was not recommending it. So the taxpayer ended up taking the hit. Why Can't we learn form our mistakes? Fair Question!!!

  2. Excellent question...No one is saying to dump the project. However, in March and April the State budget will be coming out and then Human Services will have a good idea if they are going to be hit again..Also, in march a Federal sequestration will hit which will include more hits to human service budgets..That means the State will have to cut funds or privatize services..The county has been downsizing these services and continue to do so..If these trends continue, a new building is crazy, just nuts.
If Corbett surprises everyone and the sequestration doesnt go through, then maybe this should be considered..Maybe...However, as you say, there are many other options that need to be looked at..With Ohare pushing this the way he is, you know something is up..He knows that there will be less human service money to go around which will mean less money for Gracedale. So, if you have any pull with Council, you need to ask them to hold off voting until at least may when everyone will have a better idea what monies will be available. Mind you, the sequestration is a ten year plan that will affect budgets for years to come and right now all signs point to it going through...which means lots of cuts for all Human Service programs...tell council to be smart and wait...Heckman was right.

  3. This is actually a very goo point. I hope that council doesn't move forward per se. But that they take all the time they have to to make a reasonable decision. I guess the real problem is that our politicians know that they may not be returning so they just want to ram things through with the intention that it will be someone else's problem if they are not elect. how sad

  4. I'd think that those running this year will be smart enough not to push this through..If they approve this, they will be battered over the head by there opponents for spending all this money without studying the options..Council needs to take much more time before going ahead with this. Deitrich, who is running cannot afford to be seen as a big spender..If he gets Angle in a primary he will get clobbered if he supports this.If he survives the primary , then heckman will clobber him with it in the general election..My guess is that he's in trouble if he votes for this...They only need to wait a few months to let the public digest it..It's only fair..If all other possibilities are looked at, maybe this might be the best option..However, no reason to rush!!

  5. I find it sad that more people have fallen victim to the scams and schemes of John Stoffa. It has been confirmed that only Peg Ferraro will be running for re-election as a Repiublican on county council.

It appeasrs just like Ron Angle, the other county council memebers have become victims of casting their lot with the grand schemer, John Stoffa. They were so sure he was the great, honest and wise man the O''Hare hate blog and the Press made him out to be. Now rather than endure the defeat that befell Angle they are pulling out.

I almost feel sorry for them. How could they know that Stoffa leaves only victims in his wake. They were warned by many including the COAF of the games and danger of John Stoffa. They would not listen and now as with most they are just victims of Stoffa.

The only hope is that after all that he has cost them, they do not give him his wish of a multi-million dollar mistake ih this new building. It is an ego thing for Stoffa. Their legacy could be for the taxpayers of Northampton County and not John Stoffa. The next
Adminstration will do what must be done in a well thought out and open manner. It is time now for those who have paid the price for trustng Stoffa, help the people who voted for them and not again be vicitmized by Stoffa.

    1. I agree with your sentiments. But, it seems that those we elected last year have fallen pray to stoffas lies. Take Scott Parsons, he ran on a platform of "honesty, integrity, commitment, dedication, and diligence".

So lets start with honesty, where is the honesty he promised to the folks he said he would represent? And maybe his dedication shifted from the folks he promised to serve to stoffa but why?

Where is the integrity he promised? Where is the code of morals that come from integrity. I thought he was incorruptible! But now it just looks like he is one of stoffas boys.

Is there anyone out there that we can truly trust to keep their word? I don't know.

  6. I wouldn't say they are Stoffa's boys..Parsons and Werner both listened to what the public had to say about the new building and moved to table it..hopefully, they'll keep it tabled for more than a month for all the reasons Heckman stated..Let's not forget, they replaced Angle and Dowd, thank God! They are not going to agree with you on everything..I support you guys but totally disagree with you on the electing of Row officers..That's crazy for many reasons..So let's take our time here and give Scott and Bob some credit..When I look at this council and compare it to the last one, all I can do is thank God..Next year, it'll be that much better..Be patient..

  10. Word on the street is, Stoffa sent an email to county council telling them that the $700.00 HE STATED HE WOULD PAY BACK TO THE COUNTY FOR MISUSING TAXDOLLARS IS A GIFT. A gift for what???????????????? you did what you did and you admitted it. Bernie's advice came 2 late.

  11. Stoffa will go to his grave never admitting he did anyhtingn wqrong. he will claim the $700 is for the peace of the county or some such nonsense. It is a shame but that is what he is. I am ssur ehis solicitor told him to say it.
